Product Description This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don't need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling. For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other attachments include a bare floor nozzle and a powered hand tool that is also ideal for upholstery or small carpet areas. All tools are mounted on the front of the vac in a handy case. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Works great once you get one that works September 10, 2010 Anand Thakur The first unit I received had an issue with the brushes not spinning. I checked everything out the manual said to (verified strong suction, clean filters, etc.) but no dice. Fortunately, Amazon makes exchanges painless and doesn't stick you with the return shipping charge which would have been hefty on this item.
The replacement unit arrived a few days later. I put it together, turned it on, and hooray this time the brushes were spinning! Then we tried actually using it and found barely any cleaning solution was coming out. If I took off the handle and pushed the lever on the main unit in manually, fluid came out just fine so there seemed to be something wrong with the button on the handle. The rod that operates the lever to release the cleaning fluid worked fine when I operated the button, but as soon as I put any pressure onto the rod it would push back up into the handle. Since it takes a fair amount of pressure to get fluid flowing, this was the problem. Fortunately, this was a pretty easy DIY fix by opening up the handle and shoring up the other end of the rod with some duct tape.
At this point, I finally had a fully functioning unit. It does a great job picking up old stains and the carpet felt nice and soft afterward. The brushes do a good job and make plenty of contact with the carpet. The method suggested in the manual of doing a wet stroke back, a wet stroke forward, and then two dry stores back and forwards works well but chews up the fluid quickly. I found just keeping it simple and doing a wet stroke back and then a dry stroke forward worked equally well in most cases and lets your fluid last twice as long.
All in all, this unit works fine but I'm a little frustrated that I had to deal with two units with very basic defects. If Hoover did any kind of QA on these units they wouldn't have made it out of the factory, so I really wonder if they actually do any QA. Fortunately, Amazon is on board to help makes things right, as always.
Love it! September 10, 2010 A. Murphy (Austin, TX) I purchased this product because have white carpet throughout the house but even though we take are shors off, having two boys makes it hard to keep clean all the time. Since I have two boys, under the age of 2, I've been only able to use it once but it worked GREAT! It cleaned up the mess and made my carpets look new again until the next mess. =) It was easy to use, put together and manage. I'm happy to be an owner of this machine.
Finally clean carpets! September 9, 2010 ESTHER217 (cedar springs) We would normally rent a machine once or twice a year. It was time to buy our own! We love our SteamVac (although no steam is actually made). Once you get the hang of it, it works well. Not as heavy as the rentals and it doesn't seem to lay down as much water. The carpet dried much quicker. It did have problems with some stains. So we learned to pretreat the stain first and this improved our success. The machine glides easily over carpet and the attachments are great for stairs or the couch. I only wish we had bought it sooner!
Glad to be a FORMER Bissell Proheat x2 carpet cleaner owner September 8, 2010 Jenna T (Riverside, CA) BELOW ARE PHOTO LINKS FOR PROOF OF CLEANING POWER! :) :)
My title says it all. I bought it a little over two years ago when it was the supposed "best of the best" according to a Best Buy associate. I am a former Bissell Proheat 2x owner and I disliked the machine because it was bulky, I found myself replacing side brushes within the first use, in which I had to pay about $25.00 US when I barely used it! The bag was difficult to clean, was heavy, hard to move around, held little detergent, had terrible suction power so the carpet would remain moist for at least 2 days, it was just an overall big headache. As if cleaning isn't a headache period!
DO YOUR RESEARCH/READ FEEDBACK!:
I did my mini research this time instead of listening to one good comment. I'd like to say it took me about an hour or so to decide I was going to get this Hoover steam vac to see what the 1,500+ Amazon and Best Buy 160+ review-fuss was about.
TIME OF ARRIVAL (delivery):
The Hoover steam vac arrived in its original manufacturer packaging. I quickly took it out and assembled it. It took me approximately 10 minutes or less to put it together. So not bad at all considering I have little patience for these things. It was so simple!
DOWN TO BUSINESS (cleaning!):
I obviously vacuumed before attempting to clean my off white colored carpeting. The target area was the living room because it contains the most traffic literally had BROWN dirt trails of people walking through. My old Bissell was able to remove some of the dirt, but you could see the trail. My mom would say "I think you just wet all the dirt and spread it all over evenly" (saying it didn't clean at all...lol).
After vacuuming the area to be steam cleaned I began cleaning the carpet with the Hoover Steam Vac with Clean Surge. Once finished I was extremely impressed. First off, its suction of the water is out of this world! You see all the dirt just getting picked up as it were a fresh spill. Yes my dirty collection tank was black, but it did not take me that many passes to get the dirt out! I forgot to mention I have two dogs. I recently got a puppy who likes to pee on my carpet. There were previous pee stains from my old dog that were visible even after I cleaned it with my old Bissell steam vac. Furthermore, with this new steam vac the old and new pee stains are gone. I can't begin to explain how good of a cleaner this is. I don't like writing long reviews, but all you guys were right. I am very glad I went on here (Amazon) and BestBuy.com to read over the reviews of the pros and cons.
I literally took pictures of the carpet before and after. This is just a piece of the living room:
BEFORE: [...].
AFTER: [...].
(copy paste the link to a new browser tab or open in new window)
Again my carpet was an off-white/beige color, that had black trail marks from heavy traffic, pee stains that were cleaned before, but still visible. Now my carpet almost looks new! Judge for yourself look at the photos!
My hat goes off to Hoover. This is the best steam vac I've ever owned. Very happy customer here sharing the results with everyone.
Enjoy!
PROS:
- not heavy
- good detergent and water collection tank size
** For those complaining about the collection tank or the detergent tank being too small. Think about it, if either tank were bigger the machine would be so much heavier. Then those same people would complain about weight. I feel the tank sizes are just fine!
- suction power is excellent! Within 2 hours! (windows open & doors open).
- the price tag. Half the cost of my old Bissell!
CONS:
- the detergent is a tad too price'y (at least to me it is) so I went ahead and used the Home Depot cleaner called ZAPP Professional for high traffic for $8.00. Worked like a charm. On the vacuum itself says to avoid using detergents other than the Hoover, because it may cause too much foaming. Well of course they would say that! They want you to buy theirs! Not to worry Zapp is great! I even added a little bleach and there was no foaming.
- The collection tank (of dirty water) sits directly above the motor and wiring. Never know *buzzZz* might get shocked? I'm just a paranoid person.
- no heating! Problem solved... I just fill the tank with hot water every time :)
new to steam cleaning September 8, 2010 cnap Always have had my carpets done professionally. Decided to research cleaners for personal use. They sure have come along way from the days of the bulky and heavy ones you can rent. I figured why not try one..if I can't use it with comfortably, I will return it. To my surprise, this hoover is really easy to use. I'm kinda little so these appliances can be too difficult for me to use, but I'm happy to say I have no problems with it. Not too many steps to get started. Easy to control amount of liquid I want to spray. You can see the dirty water going into 2nd bin. I didn't get to clean my whole rug at the time,I was just experimenting while I had an extra hour. It was fun to use. I really wanted to keep going! Another day...Oh yeah, carpet seemed to dry reasonably fast. All in all I think this is a great product for home use.
I want to say I'm really appreciative to Hoover. Their customer service rocks!
